Inspired by His Holiness Srila Romapada Swami and under the guidance of Subala das, a handful of teenagers got together to form SoulConnection. Since its creation in December of 2005, ISKCON Chicago’s youth group has grown tremendously. Their mission is to connect with other youth in a Krishna Conscious environment, doing things for the youth, by the youth. SoulConnection encourages using one’s strengths and channeling them in a positive manner as service to Krishna. This youth group embodies the merger between two radically different groups: the serene, beautiful practice of Krishna Consciousness and the impulsive, sometimes overly energetic teenage group. By the mercy of Srila Romapada Swami and his dedicated disciples, instead of being teenage terrors, the young people of Chicago are investing their energy to spread the message of Srila Prabhupada and love of Lord Caitanya. Without SoulConnection, such a harmonious mix would not exist.
These children are the future hope of our society, so it is a very important matter how we are training them in Krishna Consciousness from the very childhood. – Srila Prabhupada
The formation of youth organizations is such a vital part of the future of the Hare Krishna movement – HH Romapada Swami
The main idea behind the youth ministry is to have an organized group of teenagers choosing what they think is fun or are talented in, making a Krishna Conscious program out of it, and presenting it to the world! As they learn to use their talents in service to Guru and Krishna, strong relationships are formed and they help one another take steps in Krishna Consciousness. Soul Net, the youth group’s communication network, includes a quarterly newsletter, our website and informational brochures/posters. Other activities include festivals, summer camp, fundraising, music, art, service, leadership, trips, and scripture study.
